Spaghetti Sauce Local Style
Cuisine: Portuguese Local Style
Ingredients
  • 1 (16 oz.) package spaghetti noodles
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated or minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, pinch of each
  • ½ pound hot Portuguese sausage
  • 1 can tomato soup, plus ½ can of water
  • 1 (15 oz.) can stewed tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 package spaghetti mix
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
Instructions
  1. Cook spaghetti noodles according to package directions. Drain and toss noodles with a little oil. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil and saute onions and garlic. Add ground beef, salt, pepper, and sausage. Cook until brown. Drain excess oil.
  3. Next, add in tomato soup plus water, stewed tomatoes, spaghetti mix, and oregano. Turn heat to low and simmer for an hour.
  4. Serve over cooked spaghetti noodles or toss together.

 

Portuguese (Linguica) Style Spaghetti Sauce

If you want a lighter type spaghetti sauce, this recipe is a delicious version. This recipe has a meaty flavor and balanced with crushed tomatoes, onions, and other tasty ingredients.  Enjoy!

Ingredients
  • 1 (16 oz.) package uncooked spaghetti noodles
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Portuguese sausage, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon dry basil
Instructions
  1. Cook spaghetti noodles according to instructions. Drain noodles and toss with a little oil. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook onions and garlic until translucent.
  3. To skillet, add ground beef, Portuguese sausage, salt and pepper. Cook until meat is brown.
  4. Next, add can of crushed tomatoes, soy sauce and basil.
  5. Simmer for an hour.
  6. Toss spaghetti noodles with sauce before serving.
